Outdoor Tennis Complex
Oberlin College Athletics | Oberlin , Ohio
Oberlin College desired to upgrade their outdoor tennis facility by replacing it with nine new tennis courts. OSPORTS provided professional design services for this project, which consisted of removing the existing tennis court facility and replacing it with a new tennis complex inclusive of three batteries of three courts, concrete plazas, and a storm water pond. OSPORTS also collaborated with DERU Landscape Architects for general landscaping on the project.
Additional facility amenities include convenience power outlets at each court, video streaming capabilities at each court, a dedicated fan viewing area with drop down fencing for optimized viewing angles, branded court dividers, and branded windscreening.
Originally through the Design Development phase, a multipurpose storage, bathroom, & conference building was designed for the site. Due to budget constraints, the building was subsequently removed, and the court layout was reconfigured to be more cost efficient.
One of the largest challenges navigated on this project related to storm water management. The tennis facility was located at the high end of two separate watersheds with limited vertical elevation change to facilitate a gravity-based storm water detention pond. Given the unique project location, OSPORTS studied various options with a final design that utilized draining water to both watersheds, lifting the site slightly to create vertical change and remodeling an existing detention basin allowing the project to connect the storm infrastructure further upstream.
