Parkside Athletic Field Complex
City of Westlake | Westlake , Ohio
Osborn/OSPORTS provided full architectural and engineering design services for the development of a premier youth sports facility and public park at the former Parkside School site in Westlake. The project features a 165,000-square-foot synthetic turf field with an alternative infill system to reduce on-field temperatures, marking the city’s first installation of synthetic turf. The park includes a new restroom/concession building, playground, pavilion structure, walking paths, and pollinator gardens to ensure year-round use by the public and City recreational leagues. Site improvements include enhanced drainage, regrading and reseeding a passive lawn area, buffering trees and mounding for aesthetics, a new parking lot on Hilliard Blvd., refurbishing an existing lot, and utility installation.
Prior to selection, Osborn/OSPORTS conducted a detailed study comparing Westlake’s youth sports programs and athletic field inventory against national benchmarks, analyzing game scheduling efficiency and participation rates to identify field requirements. The study focused solely on athletic programming, proposing a strategic plan to meet future needs.
Based on this analysis, Osborn/OSPORTS provided recommendations for programming and utilizing the Parkside Park property, highlighting the immediate need for five additional soccer/multipurpose fields and five baseball diamonds to serve the growing community. In Phase 2, further master planning offered strategic guidance for optimizing existing parks and recreational facilities citywide.
